The road to get to this special place was also half the fun of attending summer camp. The road was filled with dirt and curved and dipped like a roller coaster.
One summer while riding to camp our van was pretty packed and our pastor’s wife was sitting between the two front
seats on a cooler. Our pastor was driving pretty fast on the road and when we
hit a dip the van would bounce and we would loose our stomachs. Now our pastors
wife was a small petite woman and as we hit the biggest dip on the road she went bouncing up and down and literally hit the
top of the van around 4 times. The kids were laughing and we had to pull over
because he was also laughing so hard he couldn’t drive. When he was able
to get control of himself, he could see that she was not laughing and immediately we all realized it wasn’t funny anymore. (I still laugh today though when I think about it and I tell all the kids this story.)
